Submission Dates: April 1 through May 1, 2019 Entries must be postmarked on or before February 1st.
Format and Submissions: Art submissions must fit the theme. What that means is up for interpretation. The theme for this year’s contest is Extra-Artinary Tales” Each student (Grades 7-12) may enter up to 1 pieces of art. Completely original hand-done artwork.No tracing, photography, or computer-generated artwork. Both wet and dry mediums are welcome. You may look at photographs or other art for ideas, but do not copy them.We want to see your creativity at work! Flat, two-dimensional artwork less than ¼” thick (not including mat or frame).This means no sculpture or other 3D aspects. Maximum size is 30” x 30”.There is no minimum size. All submissions must be suitable for all audiences. Hayfield Comic-Con reserves the right to reject entries that are gratuitously violent, sexually suggestive, vulgar, or otherwise explicitly offensive. No unfinished or incomplete submissions.
Preparing Your Entry: Once your artwork is completed, you will submit an electronic version of it via email. If you plan to photograph your artwork, here is a this short article to learn more about how to do so in a way that presents it well.
If your artwork is selected as a winner or honorable mention, you will be asked to mail us the framed original, which will be on display at the HSLDA headquarters in Purcellville, Virginia, for one year following the contest.

Timeline: April 1: Contest opens. May 1: Contest closes. Postmark deadline for entry fees and any mailed entries. In May: Results decided by judging panel and emailed to all participants.
Judging: Pieces will be judged on originality, artistry, and adherence to the theme. A panel of judges selected by Hayfield Comic Con will judge both the preliminary and final rounds. The judging panel is comprised of local professional and amateur artists. The winners will be announced at 1pm on May 4, 2019 at the Hayfield ComicCon.
The decision of the judges is final. Winners not present will be notified by email. You need not be present to win.
